Hi, I’m Emily Rock and I am so excited you are here.
Growing up on what you could call and “Old Mac Donald” farm, where we had cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, horses, turkeys, and even an albino peacock, I have some of the best memories to share from those experiences. Some of my favorites are searching all over the farm for where the hens laid their eggs and milking cows in the old parlor with my grandpa. Now looking back as an adult, I can’t help but think about how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to spend my childhood on a farm.
Coming from a small farm town, when I moved to Bowling Green is when I realized not everyone knows that chickens lay eggs or that milk comes from cows. After purchasing our land and establishing Royalty Rock Farms in 2021, I now have the platform to connect others with where their food comes from. It brings me great joy to share my farm and farm products with you.
Our Story
The first day of 2021, my husband (Kelcey) and I purchased 12 acres in Alvaton, KY where we didn’t even own a 5-gallon bucket, do you know how hard it is to do anything on a farm without a 5-gallon bucket? They are an essential. Growing up, I showed registered dairy cattle and my husband, Kelcey, grew up on a commercial beef and poultry operation. When we got married, I said I would never have a chicken on this farm and Kelcey said he would never have a Jersey on this farm. In March of 2021 that all changed, we purchased our first animal! We purchased a registered Jersey show heifer named Cream, from a registered cattle sale in Tennessee. Again, we didn’t have a truck, trailer, fence, or 5-gallon bucket! We found some folks to transport her from Tennessee to our farm in Kentucky! We worked until dark driving fence post and getting a lot prepared to put Cream in. Cream was our very first animal me and my husband had together and she was so special. We traveled across Kentucky to dairy shows where Cream won many awards like Supreme Heifer and Reserve Junior Champion Jersey at the 2021 Kentucky State Fair. Cream was a featured star in almost anything we did, she was included in our wedding, my maternity photos, and my sons newborn photo session. As a family, we milked Cream on our back porch with my baby strapped onto my back, our 7 year old (Michael) on the other side, and dad holding the flashlight for us. I had so much fun during those weeks getting to teach Kelcey and Michael how to hand milk a cow. Unexpectedly, our hearts were broken on Christmas Eve 2022 when we walked through a snowy path to the barn to find that Cream was no longer here with us. The death of Cream taught us all a hard lesson here on the farm, one that makes your heart ache yet so thankful for all the memories you made. Cream is the reason that we got another milk cow and decided that we want others to take part in that fun journey with us, which is why we offer your family raw Jersey milk and farm school for you and your kids to make similar memories. Since our journey began in 2021, we now raise a variety of animals, offer raw milk herdshares, and host children’s farm school.
